Why This Report Was Not Written: An Empty Stage-1 Output and the Path Forward
Stage-1 returned an empty result. That means there is no raw material to write from. A cricket news report of roughly 1,468 words needs, at minimum: who, when, where, what happened, the score or figures, at least one quotation, and the context around the event. Not one of those elements is present. Producing the report anyway would mean inventing facts, and a sports report built on invented facts is not news — it is fabrication. So this request is being declined rather than filled with plausible-sounding filler.
The only usable signal in the current input is Domain Label: cricket_world. That establishes the subject area is cricket. It does not establish which match, which series, which team, which player, or which date. Any specific claim written on top of that label would be guesswork, not reporting. This is not a writing problem. It is an input problem.
What is missing, and what each gap blocks:
Article Title, Source and Type — all unavailable. Without them there is no way to tell whether the underlying material is news, analysis, commentary or a match report. Without a named source there is no way to assess credibility either.
Core Viewpoints — the list is entirely empty. With no viewpoints there is nothing to analyse: no position to identify, no argument structure to take apart, no way to judge the quality of the reasoning.
Information Points — an empty list. This is where facts, data, quotations and timeline entries come from. When the upstream list is empty, everything downstream is empty by definition.
Entities Involved — these were to be extracted from the information points above. Nothing above, nothing below.
Time Sensitivity — never assessed. So it is also unknown whether the event is current or stale, and what angle the report should take.
There are three ways forward; pick one:
First, and best — send the full text of the source article. From that I can extract facts, map the argument structure, assess position and reasoning quality, and fill in the Stage-1 fields that were missed along the way.
Second — re-run Stage-1, and make sure the output includes: title, source name and URL, publication timestamp, content type, three to eight core viewpoints, a point-by-point list of information points with the originating sentence for each, and an entity list.
Third — partial information points are workable, provided each is labelled as either directly stated in the source, paraphrased, or inferred. That way every claim in the finished piece can carry a stated confidence level.
One practical note: if this Stage-1 is the output of an automated pipeline, an empty result usually means one of three things — the crawl failed (anti-bot protection or a paywall), the body-extraction selector no longer matches the page markup, or the model decided the content was not analysable. Check first whether the crawler actually received the body HTML. If that step has already failed, re-running Stage-1 will most likely return empty again.
Once any of the above inputs arrives, a genuinely original cricket report can be built — one with a clear event structure, verified figures, attributed quotes, both sides represented, and explicit context, where every claim traces back to a specific sentence in the source material.
